SCTelcom, a local & long-distance telephone and Internet provider based in Medicine Lodge, is providing advanced services to its members by upgrading its facilities with Fiber to the Home (FTTH).
FTTH is state-of-the-art technology connecting fiber-optic cable directly to the customer's home or business to deliver voice and high-speed data services. This product virtually gives the user an endless amount of bandwidth, allowing the customer speeds up to 40 megabit, or 40,000k. In comparison, dial-up connection operates at about 56k, and DSL speed ranges from 384k to 1,500k.
Most residential communities rely on copper networks, which restrict data traffic and create bottlenecks from the provider's central office to the premises. FTTH eliminates bottlenecks by increasing the amount of bandwidth and extending the fiber freeway all the way from the source to the end user.
The installation will initially take place only in SCTelcom's regulated areas. The upgrade will be done in two phases and is expected to take three to four years to complete. Phase one includes all the town areas of Turon, Iuka, Sun City, Lake City , Sharon , Hazelton, Kiowa, Byron and Burlington , Okla. Phase two will include those cities' rural areas.
This project will give SCTelcom customers cutting-edge technology at no cost. Customers need only to wait for technicians to knock on their doors.
